I view family and parental rights as a sacred entity to be approached with the utmost respect and dignity. I believe child advocate organizations would address children’s needs more effectively without tearing families apart unnecessarily. Government bureaucracy seems to have a one size fits all approach in their process. Getting courts involved in family affairs gives one person, far removed from the situation, too much power to destroy a family, further traumatizing children who may or may not be already be experiencing trauma.

I believe educational programs are much more effective in helping parents understand the needs of their children than punitive action and threats.  This education should begin in the early stages of a young adult’s schooling. Principles and skills of self awareness, relationship, and communication, are now understood better than ever and can be taught at a very young age.

If elected, I will sponsor and promote legislation that would implement programs that would give parents the skills that would empower them to cultivate the strengths in their family’s culture and teach them how to create a support system in their family network in non-threatening settings. Taxes used to support bureaucratic agencies would be given in grants to non-profit organizations that offer educational programs, resources and recommendations to parents for the well-being of their children.

People have an amazing ability to live up to high expectations based on dignity and respect. Whereas, punitive action and fear tactics tend to illicit /incite anger, rebellion defensiveness, that have the potential to further harm children, give them a distorted view of the parents and ultimately break down the cohesiveness of the family.

The morals of the majority seem to have been forced on the diversity of many. Families should never be forced into a certain structure where standard policy has not been tested and proven.
